The year 2000 was the start of the new millennium. It was also the year when the three Miss India contestants won their respective international titles. Lara Dutta became Miss Universe, Priyanka Chopra became Miss World and Dia Mirza became Miss Asia Pacific.
Lara Dutta started her pageantry career in 1995 when she won the Gladrags Megamodel India and later winning the Miss Intercontinental in 1997. Perhaps this was what boosted her confidence as she participated in the Miss Universe contest where she had a maximum 9.99mark for her final interview score. Her Bollywood career started in the 2003 film Andaaz alongside Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra which was a success. She has a string of successful movies even after getting married to Indian tennis player Mahesh Bhupathi in 2011. She also earned the Rajiv Gandhi award in 2008 for her contribution to Indian cinema.
Priyanka Chopra has been the most successful in her acting career after winning the Miss World title at the age of 18. Her first film was released in 2002, the Tamil film Thamizhan opposite Vijay. Her first Bollywood film was The Hero: Love Story of a Spy alongside Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta. She has stared in many genres of movies from romance, family drama, comedy, psychological thriller, action and also the successful superhero Indian movie Krrish (a sequel to the 2003 sci-fi film Koi… Mil Gaya). She’s also known for her unconventional roles such as the romantic comedy What’s Your Rashee? based on the novel Kimball Ravenswood by Madhu Rye. In the film, an NRI man comes to India in search of his soulmate and meets 12 girls (all played by Priyanka Chopra) who represented the characters of the 12 zodiac signs. Later she stared in an American drama series Quantico which premiered in 2015. She also played the antagonist in the 2017 film Baywatch opposite Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. She also has an interest in singing and was the first Bollywood star to be signed by Creative Artists Agency based in Los Angeles in 2012. Chopra went on to marry American singer and actor, Nick Jonas in December 2018. She has been one of the few Indian actors to have made success both in the Indian and Western cinemas.
On the other hand, Dia Mirza has not seen as much success in acting as her two counterparts. However, she played the role of Manyata in Sanjay Dutt’s biopic Sanju which ranks as one of the most successful Indian films. She has also produced a few films and a sitcom web series Mind the Malhotras which is available on Amazon Prime Video. She received the Dada Saheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2020 for her performance in ZEE5 web series Kaafir. She’s also a writer as she has written articles for the Hindustan Times and other publications.
Recently Lara Bhupathi shared a collage of the three of them in 2000 and of them now on Instagram. Though they have aged, the real beauty is not of the physical body but of the heart.
