Crocheting for a stray cat

Crochet has been in fashion since the 19th century. But especially in the 21st century, great improvements have been made in the quality of yarns and variety of patterns. People have been making DIY projects so it has become both a household and commercial art.

There have been many applications of crochet. Recently, a stray cat had to get her ears removed due to chronic and painful infections at the Dane County Humane Society in Wisconsin, US.

The cat, named Lady in a Fur Coat, had to get the outer ear flaps removed which made her look unusual. This made the employees to worry that she won’t be adopted.

However Ash Collins, one of the employees was compassionate and crocheted the cat an adorable purple ear bonnet. Although it took some coaxing but the cat finally relented. The cat was then adopted a few hours after her photos were posted on Facebook.

“Staff and volunteers at the Dane County Humane Society consistently go above and beyond for the animals in our care,” Collins said. “I was more than happy to use my crochet skills to help Lady stand out and get the second chance she deserved and I’m so honored to be a small part of her happy ending.”
